Filipino Transwoman: “Skeletons out of someone else’s closet”?

These words might all be too familiar if you’re a Super Sireyna fan. Recently, transwomen all over the country came together and celebrated our liberation when people whole heartedly welcomed and recognized the transwomen’s beauties in Eat Bulaga’s Super Sireyna, a pageant for transgender women or commonly known as ladyboys in Asia in which the word became popular in Thailand.

The search aided in discovering many transgender beauties in the country and having such prestigious competition brought pride for not only for the beauties who competed but for all transgender women in general. But like the saying goes, “it ain’t over til it’s over”, the grand finale turned out not to be the coronation of Francine Garcia, aka Kim Chui, but the big “naked truth “ from her past brought out to the open just a few days after the Grand Coronation night.

Super Sireyna Scandal

Although I am a friend, this isn’t just about writing in defense of Francine Garcia. I understand that once you’ve submitted yourself to be a public personality, anything can and will be used against you. But let us just put into emphasis that whatever is haunting her right now is just a ghost of the past. When she was interviewed for GMA News, she mentioned that Bashers, Haters and all those who sourly took her winning as their defeat will always find ways to look for skeletons in her closet.

I fully agree!  We all have some regrets about actions we’ve made in the past, sadly hers were concrete evidences. Let’s just put aside whether or not her actions in the past were unethical for a beauty queen, was it also ethical for those bashers to show it to the public?

Why people bring up the past

I hear people say that it is a very likely reaction and that we should just let it pass. I don’t think that’s even fair at all; to tolerate people digging thru other people’s stuff just to pull them down. I just need to know, what pleasure do they get out of putting people down? Does it make them any better? Posing nude on photos might be “unethical” as they would say. However, did she hurt and step on other people to get to the top?

In this point of view, whatever one might have done in the past, still does not warrant such action. It’s ironic that this so called common “human reaction” is just so inhumane. I am pointing this out for us to reassess our actions and reactions.

Stop entertaining these attacks

I understand that it might be out of curiosity that we might be taking a look at these viral pictures but please let us not give them a reason to celebrate such unprofessional act. It does not make you any different from them if you add fuel to the fire and share the news and the photos to your circle. At the end of the day, did you ever gain anything great after doing so? Did you become famous? did it make you a better person? Where you able to achieve what Francine Garcia have achieved? I bet, 100%, the answer is NO….. With that, I therefore rest my case.
